Other Side of the Blind

The appearance of having captured this image from the other side of the blinds opens up one's imagination to a great story. In her own world, finger busy on the keys as her eyes contemplate the sound she is seeking to create. I just love how her eyes make the connection to her busy finger and draws our attention to the point of activity.

Patience

My youngest is so patient with dad. She is always enthusiastic when I want to use her as a model to practice what I am learning photographically. Tonight I thought about just how inpatient I tend to be. She was in the living room playing with her new toy of musical instruments and I called for her to come to the room so I could take some pictures. She did so without complaint and when finished, returned to her interest. I think there is a lesson here. What do you think?

Fight

Day +13 since our son's double cord-blood transplant, still determined more than ever to win. His spirit to not let Leukemia defeat him without a fight is stronger than ever. His humility in the fight is admirable, his patience coveted, his love unflenching.

South Houston, Texas

If you have ever been in South Houston, you know that major food chains are not on every corner but rather, taqueria's are everywhere. I mean everywhere - every corner and in between every corner. In buildings, in vans and in buses. It is Mexican fare at it's best - if not architecturally attractive. In most of these taqueria's, you do not find english speaking or english understanding wait staff - which makes the experience all the better and memorable.

I pulled into the drive-thru of one of these little establishments to pick up some breakfast tacos the other morning. I placed my order at the little window cut out in the side of the building and placed my order through the bars that covered the opening. A line of cars grew behind me (I only speak English). They had me pull around to the rear of the building to wait for my order to be brought to my car. There, waiting, I could not help but gaze at this bicycle parked at the back door. Specifically, the laundry basket in tow. This is South Houston, Texas.

Never give up

Jonathan has been fighting AML Leukemia since August 2008.  After 9 months of treatment and a 3 month stint in remission, he relapsed. He is just 3 1/2 days from getting a double cord-blood transplant. This picture shows Jonathan's will to win and his determination to do all he can do to defeat this monster.  Although he has incredible nausea and low blood counts from his chemo, he rode his exercise bike today for well over an hour. Determination!
