Still Smiling

It has been heart-breaking these last few days watching Jonathan suffer incredible pain from this Urinary track issue. I took this shot today and it captures his victorious spirit in spite of his circumstances. Cancer sucks but Jonathan is fighting as hard as he can to not allow it to win or break him down. Nurse

"I'm not going to tell you again Jonathan, Take your *@!& medicine now!"

 "I'll take my medicine when I am ready to take it. Now, leave...me...alone!"

Role reversal. It is passionate nurses like Kami and courageous cancer patients like Jonathan that are able to laugh in the face of such a horrendous monster. Kami, keep the faith, share your love, and keep doing what you do so well. You are so appreciated and thank you for shining light on our past year and half.

Cousins

A rainy day in Mississippi didn't stop these cousins from enjoying time together. From California, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Texas, they gathered at MaMa's house and just had a good old Southern time.

Friendship

As a family affected by childhood cancer (our 18 year old son has been fighting AML Leukemia since August 2008), you quickly find your family growing and many new bonds created with those who find themselves in the same circumstance. Our daughter on right met Kaytlin just a few minutes before I snapped this shot of them as they were bonding in the playroom at MD Anderson. Both have brothers who are in the battle against cancer. Their new partnership is bound by the unstated. Nothing has to be said. They both know. Their meeting place is not dance class or the school classroom or playground. It's in a cancer hospital. A place both have come way too familiar with. 

This picture for me tells the story of authentic friendship. Age, race, ethnicity, skin color are absolutely no factors - as they ought never to be. But this friendship has roots, although they just met today. A commonality exists between the two. A commonality that includes the fact that they both have brothers whose lives are threatened by this monster we call cancer.

Ferrari

Leaving Barnes and Noble this morning I spotted this Ferrari. Wow! What a beautiful machine. I am not sure what the price tag is but being that it was parked at far end of parking lot away from anything else suggest it cost a few bucks. Contours on Wheels

I know nothing of bikes but I sure like this slick machine. I have driven by this bike parked at our apartments for a few months and this morning I decided to take a few shots of it. I like the contours and the black.

Reptile Pose

Was out roaming around the yard, enjoying beautiful weather and this little critter popped out of the bricks to pose for a few shots.

Waiting

Waiting. Just a fact of life. We were waiting with our son who was waiting to get his blood transfusions. We waited the entire day. While we were waiting, I looked out the window and saw these people, you guessed it, waiting.

Fertile Mind

I absolutely adore my daughter but that's for a post for another day. This image captures for me the imagination of a small child. Children certainly are not born with a blank slate but a fertile mind-field ready to receive lifes deposits. Some of those deposits will be harmful and others eternally beneficial. So we strive to shape and direct and teach. Megan loved music while in the womb and that love has grown thus far for the five years of life. Music can be such a positive, powerful deposit. It can speak a language unlike any other - universal and moving. Love you Megan. Keep singing, keep loving, keep thinking, keep exploring. 

Life Flight

Took this shot from the rooftop of a parking garage as we were leaving from a day full of appointments. This Life Flight helicopter was taking off from atop St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, Texas. As I fired off a series of shots, I found myself wondering who was just dropped off and if they were going to be okey? Or, who are they going to pick up?
